Align Technology, Inc. has announced the approval of its Invisalign Palatal Expander System for use in China, marking a major step forward in providing comprehensive early intervention orthodontic care. This new system offers doctors a complete solution that supports both skeletal (orthopedic) and dental (orthodontic) arch expansion in growing patients. Designed for treatment of skeletal and dental malocclusions, the system is applicable to patients in the primary, mixed, and permanent dentition stages. Align confirmed that the commercial launch of the device is expected in the second half of 2025.
This milestone reflects Align’s ongoing commitment to improving clinical outcomes and streamlining orthodontic treatment processes. The Invisalign Palatal Expander represents a significant innovation, incorporating cutting-edge direct 3D printing technology built on Align’s proprietary and patented advancements. Each expander is custom-built for the patient using detailed digital impressions captured with the iTero intraoral scanner, ensuring precision fit and tailored functionality.
The device is intended for rapid palatal expansion and the stabilization of the upper jaw (maxilla) in cases of skeletal or dental narrowing. Once the digital scan is complete, a personalized treatment plan and device design are generated through Align’s proprietary orthodontic software, allowing for highly individualized care that meets the anatomical and clinical needs of each patient.
